Project Description

The project is located in Bayraklı, a district adjacent to İzmir’s Alsancak harbor, an area historically characterized by large-scale industrial uses. With the development of İzmir’s Central Business District (CBD), the area is undergoing a major transformation to become a new urban focal point. The project aligns with İzmir Metropolitan Municipality’s broader vision, focusing on enhancing global economic competitiveness, promoting ecological design principles, and adopting a participatory planning approach.

Key design strategies include creating an artificial topography that frames vistas toward the Smyrna Mound and the sea, and preserving the Piyale Pasta Factory, an important piece of İzmir’s modern architectural heritage. The site organization fosters organic connections between the Smyrna Mound, the future CBD, and the Bayraklı district. Building typologies are diversified into three categories: organic forms, factory-inspired structures, and open platforms. This variety supports a participatory, accessible public space that welcomes all İzmir residents, enriching the urban fabric and memory of the site.
