Project Description

The project is situated in the Yüzüncü Yıl neighborhood of Çankaya, Ankara, an area originally developed in 1972 as state-supported worker housing. Over time, the district evolved into a heterogeneous community, shaped by the influence of institutions like the Middle East Technical University (METU) and Çankaya University. Despite its diverse demographics, Yüzüncü Yıl is characterized by strong social cohesion and a culture of tolerance, where residents live together harmoniously across languages, ethnicities, and generations.

In response to this context, the design proposes an inclusive public center built around the concept of artificial topography and transparent spatial organization. The intervention introduces green public spaces and aims to strengthen the neighborhood’s commercial and social life by enhancing accessibility at all hours. Programmatically, the center includes an auditorium, library, exhibition areas, workshops, foyers, cafes, and commercial units. By integrating these functions within a continuous landscape, the project seeks to create a lively, accessible, and socially responsive community hub.
